Taiko no Tatsujin: Don and Katsu's Space-time Adventure (Japanese: 太鼓の達人 どんとかつの時空大冒険, Taiko no Tatsujin: Don to Katsu no Jikū Daibōken) is the 2nd Taiko no Tatsujin game released for Nintendo 3DS. It was released in June 26, 2014.

It is also the first Taiko no Tatsujin game to be released in Korea.

In winter 2020, Don and Katsu's Space-time Adventure, along with Dokodon! Mystery Adventure, were re-released on Nintendo Switch as part of Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure Pack. Don and Katsu's Space-time Adventure was re-titled with the generic Rhythm Adventure 1 name in the US and EU release of this re-release.

Gameplay[]

The core gameplay of the game is the same as its predecessors on Nintendo DS and 3DS systems. The costumes in this game are back to being in two parts, more akin to the DS games.

Like its predecessor, Little Dragon and the Mysterious Orbs, it features a main story mode which contains RPG elements. Likewise, some of its featured songs have extra tracks.

It is also the first Taiko no Tatsujin game which employs paid DLC (downloadable content) and QR codes to unlock extra elements such as songs, costumes and characters. Finally, it is the first game of the series to implement the StreetPass mechanic, where communication occurs between two 3DS systems when they pass by each other.

Space-time Adventure Mode[]

Space-time Adventure mode is the game's main story mode. The gameplay is similar to that of Yokai Great Decisive Battle mode of Dororon! Yokai Great Decisive Battle! and the Little Dragon and the Mysterious Orbs mode of Little Dragon and the Mysterious Orbs. The setting of this title's mode is actually several periods in time, mixing certain themes of the previous modes in terms of characters and locations.

Unlike the previous game, the player will recruit several characters during the course of the story, and regular enemies can join the party when defeated in battle. The player's party is composed of up to four members, through members with a 'Big' classification occupy two slots in the party, and in most cases, the player is limited to have one of these members in their party.

Story[]

One day, while preparing to enjoy a festival, Don and Katsu encountered a pink rabbit being chased. Upon being approached by the brothers, the rabbit introduced himself as Tocky, and explains that his pocket-watch friend, Ticky, was kidnapped by a group of villains. Said trio of villains -a flamboyant man, a petite smart girl, and a brutish man wearing armor plates- appeared with Ticky in-tow, and introduced themselves as Pietro, Helga and Durnam, respectively, prompting Don and Tocky to duel Pietro in a music match while Katsu chases after Ticky and his captors.

After defeating Pietro, the leader of the villains, Professor Timedyne, appeared out of a time vortex and introduced his group as Team Timedyne. Upon Helga and Durnam handing Ticky over to the professor, Tymedyne explains they intend to use his time-bending powers to mold the world to their will. However, before he can initiate said powers, Katsu tackles the group and he is sucked to a time vortex, along with Ticky leading to Japan's Warring States period. Enraged, Timedyne and his group chase after them. Don decides to follow them in order to find his brother and Ticky.

And so, an adventure spanning space-time begins...
