The core gameplay of the new arcade is mostly the same as the previous version, with some key differences.
The Don point currency, which was introduced since eariler third-generation Taiko no Tatsujin arcade, has been abolished in this version. Instead, a new in-game currency, known as Don Medals, supersedes the Don points. Much like Don points, player with Banapassport can earns Don medals by playing the songs. (except in Dojo Ranking and Tokkun Mode) Unlike Don points however, player will only earns the Don medals in an unchangeable set amount. Don medal earning boost may happen during specific holidays and some promotions.
The in-game reward shop has also changed, in which the shop's contents will be swapped after each change of season. Any leftover Don medals earned during the 3-month period will be removed on each season change.
Similarly, the shopping points for Donder Hiroba online shop has abolished as well, and in its place is the Katsu medal currency. Unlike Don medals, only one Katsu medal is obtained per play with Banapassport, and the medals will not be removed on season change.
In Japanese version's version 5.17 update and Asia version's version 4.03 update, the 2-player-exclusive Waiwai Play (Japanese: いっしょにワイワイ演奏, Issho ni Waiwai Ensou) mode was added. In this mode, both players shares a single Soul Gauge and the notecharts of the compatible songs/musics are modified for unique co-op songplay. The inter-connected note was introduced along with this mode. Unlike the default 2P mode, scores, crowns and titles unlock won't be registered while in this mode.
